From the ride brochure: “As American Legion riders, we travel as a Legion family and have become well known for our charitable work for children’s hospitals, schools, veterans’ homes, severely wounded service members, and scholarships. We are proud to have recently added to our list of focused efforts the ongoing preservation and upkeep of the beautiful Lorain County Vietnam Veterans Memorial honoring 98 Lorain County heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.”
Saturday’s 98-mile ride started at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on North Lake Street in Amherst. The first stop was Eric Barnes’ Heroes Walk [where I caught up with them – thanks to Loraine!], the second stop was the Blue Star Memorial on Lake Road in Avon Lake, lunch break at Lake Erie Harley-Davidson on Chester Road in Avon, the third stop was at the Lagrange HONOR Memorial on West Street, the fourth stop was at the Wellington American Legion on South Main Street in Wellington, and the final stop was at the Amherst American Legion on North Lake Street in Amherst.
