It takes a community to not only help deter crime, but also to fight and solve it, according to Lorain police Sgt. Rick Soto.
In an effort to engage the community with the department’s future endeavors and raise awareness as to how Lorain Police are working with the public to address crime, the department will hold a series of “district specific” forums for each of the five that it serves.
Department heads will be in attendance to educate residents on specific programs utilized to deter and solve crime, Sgt. Michael Failing said.
“We also want to bring to light some of the things that are going on in our city, and what we’ve done to combat them,” he added. “And we will also go into the specifics of what is going on in their districts.”
TODAY – April 10, the Lorain Police Department will host its first forum to address issues facing district one. This forum will be designed specifically to address the city’s entire east side and will start at 6 p.m. at Longfellow Middle School, 305 Louisiana Ave., in the school cafeteria.
“We’re hoping to get out to the citizens of the community, some of the things that their police department is doing for them and the city,” Soto said.
The following four district community forums taking place at 6 p.m are:
* District two: April 17 at Admiral Ernest J. King Elementary School, 720 Washington Ave., in the school cafeteria. This forum will include residents north of the railroad tracks from Leavitt Road to Broadway Avenue.
* District three: April 24 at General Johnnie Wilson Middle School, 2700 Washington Ave., in the school cafeteria. This forum will include residents south of the railroad tracks from Elyria Avenue to Leavitt Road, and south to the city limits.
* District four: May 1 at Lorain High School, 2270 E. 42nd St., in the school cafeteria. This forum will include all South Lorain residents.
* District five: May 8 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, 3700 Kolbe Road, in the Ross Room. This forum will include residents west of Leavitt Road to the city limits both west and south.
