  1. Especially when you’re running late and weren’t expecting the whole darn street to be closed!
    Just kidding 😉
A lot of these trees have been marked to come down for a long time. After the damage done to the tops by OE/FE and the unavoidable damage that will happen to the roots during the sewer project, if we don’t take ’em down, they will fall down. What I don’t understand is why they are going to go back through and replant the trees after the sewer project is complete. Tree roots get into sewer lines and cause backups and breaks. Talk about guaranteed job security for generations of city workers to come! Not to mention OE/FE workers, too, as they will have to keep the trees out of the power lines above. Again. I say if you want a tree, plant it in your own yard like the law says.

    1. Lisa if you go to my blog post re the meeting http://thatwoman.wordpress.com/2012/03/16/oberlin-avenue-tree-removal-and-replacement-meeting/

and pull up the PDF file Tree Planting – you will see what type of trees and where they are planned and the question of sewers etc they are replacing the water lines under the sidewalks – which is why the trees have to come down as they are digging up the sidewalks and tree lawns ….. the meeting was very informative now if I could get ride of those power lines …… errrrrrgggggggg

      1. That’s the one very big question mark I have, Loraine. Why not do something with those power lines while we’ve got everything dug up? If it’s a matter of waiting for the new substation to be constructed and online, certainly there are other things that can be done for the sewer project in the meantime. I wish I had gone to the tree meeting. I’ll check out the pdf – thanks!

    1. They have two weeks to take down 75+ trees on Oberlin Avenue in preparation for a new sewer line project. The Indiana Bat’s nesting season begins April 1 and all these trees have to be gone before then. So far, they’ve been clearing about a block a day.

  3. Hi Cindi – thanks for stopping by Lorain 365! I agree with you – I think Oberlin Avenue looks 100% better without the trees on the treelawns. And once they get rid of the Edgewater OE/FE facility, that lake view will only get better!
