Bancruptcy? Sad…. In Germany there is another traditional warehouse busted which was one of the best known for many, many decades, more than 6 decades. And a few month before a chain of drugstores also busted with severeal hundreds of stores in nearly every village and town.
I think the owner is frustrated that he couldn’t compete with the proliferation of dollar stores in Lorain. They are everywhere. I had heard that the city gave him a hard time about petty stuff that delayed the store opening, then he just wasn’t able to draw people in like he thought he would. We shopped there from time to time, usually for deli items. It’s never a good thing to lose a locally owned business, but it seems like we do it every day. Stopped at the new gyro place for dinner the other day – they just opened March 20 – and they were already closed and long gone. It’s hard to find something that works around here.
Thanks a lot for the explanation, Lisa. So the city is maybe also a bit responsible for this bancrupcy? They should support local businesses. But I think it everywhere the same…Hard times and I amsometimes afraid where it will all lead us to.
The place before the gyro place . . . we had ordered take out from there twice. Both times, we got home and realized that not everything we ordered was in the bags! Oh, they CHARGED us for all of the items, but didn’t put them in the bag! I called them both times to be told “oh yeah, we’re out of that”. Hmm. out of it but still charging me for it? They didn’t close soon enough for me.
The new gyro place paid the price for the prior business for me. They left such a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended!) that I wouldn’t go back there in spite of it being a new business.
