red-shouldered hawk

[h/t Chris Saladin for ID-ing this beautiful bird of prey]

  1. When I first came upon this bird, it was on the ground and appeared to be throwing itself at the fence. I’m thinking whatever it was chasing got through the fence & the bird didn’t know what to do. Our resident bird of prey expert tells me that “They are often elusive and in the woodland areas…” so seeing it at 12th & Reid was quite a catch. Who knew we had all this beautiful wildlife?
