LUCKY DOG

Lorain Fire Department Lt. Ben Weber rescues 13-year-old, Golden Retriever mix Maya after the dog fell between the rocks at the Spitzer Marina, Friday. The dog’s owner, John Durinsky, 33, of Lorain said he was walking along the mile-long pier with his dog about 11:45 a.m., when the pooch stopped to sniff around the rocks. Maya, who suffers from peripheral vestibular disease—a nerve damaging condition of the inner ear that leads to a loss of balance—got a little too close to the edge, fell off of the pier, and became lodged between a trio of boulders. Within 10 minutes of arriving on the scene, Weber and Lorain Police officers secured the dog and returned her to her owner unharmed.
