Thanks, Linda! This was shot from a floating dock at Black River Wharf [14th & Broadway]. You are the only person I have seen talking about the anniversary of the bridges. You’d think the city or port authority would at least mention it on their websites.
Hi Lisa. Yes, I brought this up to the Lorain Historical Society. I think in honor of the Twin Bridges — there should be a bridge festival in Lorain this year. From the Lorain Public Library’s website:
H.G. Van Wagnen is elected as mayor in January, 1940.
On June 23, 1940 work continues on Lorain’s two new bridges; and a new Isaly’s Dairy Store is opening at 1920 Broadway.
The Central High Level Bridge and Erie Avenue Bascule Bridge are dedicated on September 25, 1940.
Fantastic photograph! Did you take in while in a boat in the river? Both the High Level Bridge and the Bascule Bridge are 75 years old this year.
