On May 31, the Heberlings had no idea that their son was about to have a stroke. That night, Martin Heberling discovered Jacob laying on the bathroom floor, unable to move. Jacob was admitted to Cleveland’s Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Doctors said he had suffered a stroke caused by a clot in his brain.
Immediate surgery was performed and the clot was removed. Jacob has use of his legs and can walk, and he is able to use his left arm. Doctors diagnosed Jacob with an extremely rare juvenile heart condition called Restrictive Cardiomyopathy, for which there is no cure.
The family is raising money to pay for a heart transplant that will take place within a few months.
