Photo Challenge – short story
Ann Duchez
“When her mother died her mind went blank and many memories went missing. Over time, some returned but others remain blank spaces where once were words and images. The double loss of parent and memories make her fearful that the same will happen when her father passes many years from now. So, she makes a deal with her anxiety: her dad cannot die until she writes the perfect eulogy that contains every detail she wants to keep – she will not let grief rob her again! Night after night she writes and edits and tosses out drafts, all the while hopeful that each failed attempt buys one more day of life for her dad – a person who should be, by all that is fair, unforgettable.”
