  1. It’s open, it’s closed, it just ain’t easy being green.
I’ll be so glad when they’re done with this project.
I couldn’t believe how many people didn’t realize the bridge was closed.
I even had one girl stop and ask how she could get around this!
I said “are you new here?” and she said was.
I told her that I hoped she enjoyed her scenic tour of Lorain!

    1. I sit a verticel-lift bridge? For ships that had to pass it? I’m curious: What project? A ship being released from a wharf?
The green color in the pic is awesome! Sort of glowing.

      1. That’s our Bascule Bridge. It’s a drawbridge that opens for the ships to pass through. Nowadays, there aren’t as many ships as there used to be and the sailboats make up the majority of the traffic. Right now, they are working on balancing the weights on the bridge to minimize the wear and tear on the mechanical lift system. Then they have to work on the center lock that keeps the two sides together when the bridge is down. The last time they worked on this bridge, it turned into a major debacle. It was closed in the open position for many more months than they had estimated. Being one of 2 bridges between the east and west sides of town and the direct link to downtown, it negatively impacted the businesses and residents on both sides. It was a bad bad scene. Usually the bridge is bathed in purple, but they have lights that can turn it just about any color you like. Green must help them see better as they work under the bridge.

        1. Oh, thank you for this explanation, Lisa. This is very interesting to me. Int the twon I was born there was a similar bridge. I’m going to post about it later. – When I see your pics and read the stories about Lorain, I wish I could see all this with my own eyes. I love towns and houses, I love old and new interesting stories. Just the stuff I totally love. I think it makes life richer to know more about the world, thw world as it is in the daily lifes of people. This is what I love: The internet makes it all possible. We are neighbors although thre is a wide ocean between us. But we can come and visit each other in our houses, have a small kitchen talk or can go on a sightseeing tour.
